Early achievements of Pupils or Disciples in Midsummer. June 20, 2016 is a special day for the medical staff of the Fifth Gynecologic Oncology Department as they will welcome Professor Wilberto Nieves - Neira, a Gynecological Oncologist at Prentice Women’s Hospital of Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University, and his outstanding students Brandon Seagle fellow, to our department for a week of clinical interactions to discuss the future in-depth exchange and cooperation with our hospital. Professor Wang Jing, deputy director of our hospital, was appointed as Distinguished Professor at Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University in 2015 . She signed an agreement with Feinberg on cooperation between both parties with regard to gynecology oncology, including the cooperation in the joint training of gynecologic oncologist and scientific research. Therefore, our hospital has become the only international hospital designated by American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for the training of gynecologic oncologist.

The US-China international exchange and cooperation across the Pacific Ocean includes: exchange of surgery, case consultation, teaching rounds and academic lectures. It is aimed at strengthening the communication, learning and cooperation between experts in our hospital and foreign experts and improving the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological cancer of our hospital to lay a solid foundation for the in-depth cooperation between both parties with regard to Gynecologic Oncology in the future to benefit numerous patients.

On June 24, invited by the Third International Forum of gynecological tumors in Hunan Province, Professor Westin from MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States also came to the beautiful Star City Changsha for clinical exchange, surgery observation, and teaching rounds in the Fifth Gynecologic Oncology Department. Experts from US and China hold detailed discussions on the postoperative recovery of patients, including the use of antibiotics, whether routinely leave the drainage tube after the surgery and the use of vaccine for patients undergo splenectomy and the like. US experts advocate the idea of rapid recovery, encouraging early ambulation and eating for the patients so that they feel healthy mentally. Professor Nieves and Professor Westin stated that a lot of clinical studies in the United States had confirmed that early eating and ambulation after the surgery would help patients to recover. Professor Zhang Keqiang, director of the Fifth Gynecologic Oncology Department, demonstrated that such well-founded advanced idea full of humanistic care was worth emulating and learning.

The exchange lasting just a week has ended. Professor Nieves, Brandon and the entire medical staff of Gynecologic Oncology Department have established a profound friendship. As the vanguard of Northwestern University, they really want to continue this international medical exchange and cooperation across the Pacific Ocean and hope that both parties will carry out in-depth cooperation in the fields of medical technology introducing, medical programs sharing, exchange and training of talents, international referral, teleconsultation, etc. We would like to take this opportunity to learn from each other and integrate Chinese and American medical resources so that the gynecological oncology center of our hospital can go global,  providing the patients in Hunan with the medical services of international quality at the "door of home".
